The Darkest Minds was based on a book series by Alexandra Bracken, and the sequel could draw inspiration from the following books in the series. Never Fade , the second book, continues the story of Ruby, Liam, and Chubs as they navigate their powers and the challenges of living in a world where kids like them are feared and hunted.. Really great books I thought they were wonderful terrible that they aren't making a series it was thought about but they shut that down but anybody who hasn't read the books and liked the movie I suggest finishing the series of books amazing all the way through!

I thought The Darkest Minds was awesome, I found the plot interesting and the supporting characters and their relationships with each other to be very well done. I had only 2 issues with that book -- the pacing and Ruby. Unfortunately, in this sequel, those 2 things still sucked and worse, the suckiness was actually magnified.. The Darkest Minds, published December 18, 2012, is the first novel of the series.The novel's and series' title was changed from Black is the Color to The Darkest Minds in November 2011.
