Clonal analysis and fate mapping of single, identified cells show that tracheal system remodeling at metamorphosis involves a classical imaginal cell population.. Regenerated discs are recovered from the host by microsurgery and implanted into larvae for differentiation. After metamorphosis, the implanted disc differentiates into a wing.
