DPE - D isplaced P hase E xcitation - The generator's stator excitation (unregulated AC output) windings are referred to as DPE windings by Generac. GCU - G overnor C ontrol U nit HSB - H ome S tand B y - Description of generator purpose. LFP - Lo w F uel P ressure switch LSM - L oad S hed M odule LOP - L ow O il P ressure switch. The DPE is an AC winding which would vary with the main output based on field strength. Somewhere around 100VAC or more. The rotor (DC voltage) varies also with load, but at no load it's usually slightly higher than 12V. No load excitation will vary from model to model, since the rotors are different.
The motor shop claims they did not see a DPE winding when they disassembled the stator but after showing them the wiring diagram they conceaded that there was one. The motor shop says they can add the DPE winding if they know the wire size and the number of turns. I have tried to contact Generac and they refuse to talk to me.. Test 5:— Check Stator Excitation (DPE) Windings NOTE:The excitation wires may be colored or numbered. The numbered wires are #2 and #6.The colored wires are blue and red.Be sure not to confuse the colored excitation wires with the colored power wires. The excitation wires are the wires connected to the bridge rectifier or voltage regulator.
