Those who appreciate extra punch and top-end speed will enjoy what the 195 delivers. During mid-range acceleration tests, we traveled from 20 to 40 mph in 8.6 seconds and 30 to 45 mph in 11 seconds. Compare that with a similarly sized Yamaha 190 series hull wherein we accelerated from 20 to 35 mph, close to the 190's maximum speed, in 8.3.. The new hull features a reshaped keel to improve low-speed tracking, and the shape of the strakes and an extended running surface are intended to reduce bow rise on acceleration.

The supercharged engine delivers outstanding acceleration and 8 to 10 MPH more top speed than the standard engine; the 190 feels a little under-powered by comparison, although it will use less fuel - about 12 gallons per hour versus 20 gph for the 195 at wide-open throttle. All models benefit from a new running surface.. I tested the newly revised AR195 this past fall on Lake Simcoe at Yamaha's Media Days, and the single 1.8 L (1,812 cc) Super Vortex High Output engine produced a time to plane of two seconds and a top speed of 51 mph @ 7500 rpm in a light chop.
