The D-STATCOM is a shunt device. It should therefore be able to regulate the voltage of a bus to which it is connected. The operating principle of a D-STATCOM in this mode has been termed as the D-STATCOM in voltage control mode. This report shows that even though the structure of D-STATCOM used in both current control and voltage control modes is the same, its operating principle is different.. Suitable adjustment of the phase and magnitude of the D-STATCOM output voltages allows effective control of active and reactive power exchanges between the D-STATCOM and the ac system.
