I don't know what percentage, but there are many people who watch Gurren Lagann and only really enjoy it and takeaway from it the craziness and action and "believe in yourself and you can do anything" but that's only part of what the show is.. After the time skip, we learn everything we thought we knew wasnt quite what was really going on and also without the earlier episodes we wouldn't have understood rossiu and Simon nearly as well. Watching Simon try to set aside his need to be on the front lines to try to be the leader kamina City needed was excellent character development.
